Pain Management Services
Pain management is a sub-specialty field of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach to easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with pain. The pain management team at Southwest Orthopedics includes physicians, physiotherapists, a personal trainer, and when necessary, the expertise of our surgical specialists. Pain sometimes resolves once the underlying problem has healed; in some cases, however, effective treatment of chronic pain requires the coordinated efforts of the entire pain management team.
In the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, our practice focuses on the non-surgical management of spinal and musculoskeletal pain conditions. This includes electrodiagnostic testing (nerve tests), spinal injections, peripheral nerve and joint blocks, and medication management.
Electrodiagnostic Testing (EMG)
An EMG is the testing of muscles and nerves. It is used to diagnose spinal nerve root compression (pinched nerves or sciatica), carpal tunnel syndrome, and a variety of other neuromuscular disorders.
